STYLE, BOTH HOW I SHOOT & HOW I EDIT…
Every baby is different, not all newborn babies are comfortable in all poses. Not all parents are happy for their baby to be posed naked. Every parent has a differnt style or colour scheme in mind.
I always work with you when planning the session, from the colours to the props (if any) and I both talk to you about your babies health and preferences and feel how baby responds to being in differnt positions.
YOU GET TO CHOOSE
Before your session I send you a link to a sample gallery where you can create your own favourites list to base your session on. This way you know exactly what you’re getting when you book. You get to choose whether you want props or not & your colour scheme and poses.
My Simply Baby sessions are without props and are intended to be more natural and minimal. The Opulence sessions include both baby alone and baby in props. I’ve chosen a selection of props that are classic, timeless and elegant. Whether you prefer soft pink florals or striking greys there is something for everyone!
ON THE DAY
I like for both you and your baby to be happy & relaxed. The temperature is a little warm (for baby) and there’s plenty of refreshments & a comfy sofa for you.
Some babies love being wrapped others don’t. At the session I work in response to your baby, if they need to feed I stop. If they’re getting at all distressed and need their mummy, I’ll stop. The session is all about you and your baby and that is what is at the centre of all my sessions and my focus throughout.
What if my baby won’t settle? This is a question many new parents worry about. Please don’t worry about this. We have options. Many babies will have a preference for how they like to settle. Some love to be swaddled in a lovely wrap, others love being placed in my cosy posing beanbag (it’s a big winner for settling babies) and other babies hate being wrapped and want to be naked. And the odd baby can’t stand to be anywhere but on mum.
Whichever preference your baby may have we can work with it. If there is something obviously causing your baby great distress on the day and s/he won’t settle at all we can re-schedule. So please don’t have any anxiety about this. This is part of my job, to help settle and sooth, together with your help I am certain that most babies will calm and settle given a little time.
Many parents comment on how amazed they are by how I can settle and soothe their newborn and aften ask for tips.
I have an array of soft blankets and props which are kept clean and washed with non-bio washing detergent after each session. I use hand sanitiser regularly and the care and safety of your little one is my primary concern throughout.
I have white noise playing to help settle your baby into a nice relaxed sleep so that those beautifully sleepy newborn images can be captured. Yourself and your partner can relax on the sofa with a drink and biscuits while you watch your beautiful baby being photographed. I want the experience to be as easy and stress free as possible for you. I am experienced with babies (and I’ve had one of my own) so I want you to know that your baby is in good hands.
The techy bit…
I’m a professional photographer with many years experience under my belt. I have a full frame Canon 5D camera accompanied by a whole range of professional lenses. I also have an array of newborn photography wraps & props to suit a range of tastes.
I have received extensive training in the safety of posing newborn babies and I would ask that you never try to recreate any poses on your own at home because your baby really does need to be safe.
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
Not only am I well trained and experienced behind the lens I am also an experienced editor of photographs. I love the process of turning a photograph into artwork and my digital retouching ranges from covering up those dark circles under exhausted eyes to creating a piece of beautiful artwork that you’d love to have printed on canvas and hung around your home. I spend days after your initial shoot perfecting your images, a lot of love care and attention goes in to each and every image in your gallery.
