Protecting your little one’s privacy online
This is definitely not a post preaching to anyone about how much or how little should be posted online when it comes to your lovely little babies. In fact, it is exactly the opposite.
I know every parent has their own preferences about how much or how little they wish to share online when it comes to their children. Some love to share everyday photos, others just the milestones, some like to put the odd photo up and some prefer not to have a single photograph online.
Something I want you to know…
When you book a portrait session with me you will be asked whether you’re happy for photographs to be shown online.
You totally have the right to say no!
You can even specify if you only want certain photographs but not others to be shown online.
I know some parents don’t want photographs of themselves to be posted but are more than happy for photographs of their baby to be shown.
Or some are happy for wrapped portraits of their baby to be shown but not the naked ones.
If you are happy to have your little one’s photographs posted in my online gallery or on my business pages (Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest) then I can promise you
I WILL NEVER disclose your little ones name and I will NEVER tag you.
I will always keep your little one’s identity private. To the world your baby is just another nameless baby.
By all means, if you want to tag yourself or share it with the world I would absolutely love you to, but if you don’t, I want the choice to be yours.
But don’t photographers like to post all their sessions to advertise their business?
Yes, of course. But personally, I believe that ensuring the privacy of my clients nearest and dearest is as important as ensuring their physical safety during their portrait session.
I’d rather work twice as hard marketing myself through other means than to have any parent feel uncomfortable about what is being posted online.
Also, I believe that when parents (and parents to be) visit my portfolio, on whichever platform they find me, they don’t need to know the identity of the beautiful little babies they’re admiring.
They just want to know what they can expect from me as their photographer.
Does it mean I might not have as much new work in my social media sometimes?
Yes, it does, but I hope that you now all understand why. It’s not that I’m not busy, it’s just that I’m respecting every parent’s wish when it comes to the online presence of their child.
So yes, allowing me to use images of your beautiful babies in my online gallery is a huge help in supporting my little local business but if you’re just not comfortable with it then I completely understand.
More important to the success of my business is the wonderful word of mouth referrals that I receive. If you are genuinely happy with your portraits and my service then please do keep spreading the love and let other local mum’s know that I am here. It’s appreciated more than you know!
