Before & After | Beautifully Hand Edited Images
There is nothing I love more than capturing moments. Moments which I can look back on and remember fondly until I’m old and grey. I’ve always loved photographing memories. Maybe it’s because I had a grandmother who was so fearful of losing all her memories (who now suffers terribly from dementia) that she instilled it in me to remember every moment.
I also want my daughter to have the chance to look back on all her earliest adventures that she couldn’t possibly remember and get a glimpse of her life and how much she meant to us. Even now at only 15 months old she points at pictures of herself on the walls and beams a great big smile and then claps with so much joy that I can only think she approves of seeing herself adorning the walls of our family home.
Every day is so precious and sometimes days can pass and I suddenly notice that she’s looking a little different, her face has changed or she developed a new mannerism which adds to her growing personality. It immediately makes me want to plan another photo shoot. So that’s what we do. We head out to a local park and make some wonderful memories and document another little part of her life so far. She always loves playing around in the grass in the park and I love nothing more than photographing her so we always have a blast.
I’m always looking out for a perfect spot to take a photograph, but really you don’t need to be anywhere glamorous. These photos were taken in local parks, at the local lavender fields and would you believe it a beach in North Wales. In fact, in the top images, Emilie is actually in her PJs with a jumper pulled over because it was 5am and we needed to get her out of the caravan before she woke up my nephew. So beautiful images really can be taken anywhere…
I just need an end vision in mind on how they can be edited into something beautiful….
I should probably add that these hand edits are incredibly time-consuming so quality over quantity is usually what I’m aiming for. There are no quick fix filters/actions used in any of the above images. They are each individually edited to take the image from what came out of the camera to what I want it to become. It sometimes feels a little magical watching an image transform and come to life. And I almost love the editing process as much at the shoot itself.
